As Managing Director, Ian oversees Strategic Wealth Services’ culture of empathy, accountability and high ethical standards that translate into excellent quality service. Ian also plays a hand-on role as Senior Financial Planner, developing strategies to help clients manage their financial affairs and meet their life goals.
Ian has over 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry and started his financial planning career at National Australia Bank (nab). Since then he has built specialist expertise in investment portfolio management, age pension and Centrelink matters, as well as superannuation management. Ian’s insights and knowledge provide him the perfect base for assisting clients to achieve financial security.
Ian has also personally experienced how a business can grow from a three-person financial planning firm to a multi-disciplined business, so he understands the needs of small to medium business and the support required to meet day-to-day financial challenges.
Ian has a Diploma of Financial Planning, is a Certified Financial Planner and is a current member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and the SMSF Association.
Strategic Financial Planner
James is a Certified Financial Planner and small business expert. He has been helping clients and their families with their financial affairs for 15 years. Over that time the importance of a relationship with a trusted advisor hasn’t changed.
Having run his own business, James is among a few financial planning experts in Melbourne who specialise in the needs of business owners and entrepreneurs. James helps his clients grow, protect and exit their business when the time comes.
James generously shares his knowledge and insights across a number of forums. He is a lecturer in financial planning and financial planning for small business at Monash University, hosts The Money Show on 3WBC Melbourne and in 2017 published a book: The Retirement Myth – Why most small business owners can’t afford to retire and what to do about it. The book addresses the six important steps that will give any business owner a comfortable and financially rewarding retirement.
James holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics and Finance), an Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) and a Certificate IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking, as well as Kaplan’s Self-Managed Superannuation Fund program.

Director & Head of Superannuation
Michael’s professional experience includes more than 30 years of senior leadership in superannuation and financial services. His roles have included CEO of Mainstream Superannuation Services which has incorporated the role of CEO of Combined Super, Head of Product and Technical Services at both JB Were Investment Management and Vanguard Investments Australia and Senior Consultant and Administration Manager at Buck Consultants.
Currently, Michael is a Director and the Victorian Community Chair of the SMSF Association and a Non-Executive Director of Evergreen Consultants, a boutique asset consulting business, as well as being the Chair of Eltham College.
Michael has a passion for providing personalised services and considers this vital for maintaining continued trusted relationships in the financial planning world. He has a Diploma of Superannuation Management, a Graduate Certificate of Business Administration and is a Justice of the Peace.
